Details and Specifications of Calypso Ten (This design is available for construction)

Proving that our designs are constantly getting better with age is “Calypso Ten”

This 24 Metre Sea-Cat design is looking to be the best performing hull to date, powered by twin MTU 12 V 2000M72 (965hp) with a top speed of 30 knots achieved during sea trials in the waters off the Gulf of Thailand near Ocean Marina (Pattaya). However the operating speed will be limited to 25 knots cruise @ 70% load to conform with Australian commercial operational regulations, AMSA NSCV Class 1C.

This design (even though being the most popular size design) we started from scratch, as the customer asked for a plumb bow to maximize the waterline length and still keep the measured length under 24metres LOA. So we started with his existing proven Sea Cat 24 hull which in this case was the slim line underwater (semi-displacemant) deep-vee hull. This hull has proven, in the past to be very fuel efficient – cutting through the water with a great sea keeping motion. We also extended the bow and added the nose cone, keeping the rest of the underwater shape the same as the proven hull, with just a few tweeks to enhance the performance. The results were as predicted with a few bonuses, the cruising speed was reached at low RPM, running trim was perfect, plus the hull gave off a relatively low wash.

This version features walk around sides on the upper deck with large fwd and aft decks with lounge and seating big enough for all passengers to lie down. The lower deck features a spacious air conditioned day cabin with side located galley, servery and refrigeration to allow for the service of lunch and refreshments during the cruise. The foredeck is the most popular section of the boat and is extremely large with ample space for up to 40-50 passengers.

“Calypso Ten” Hydraulic (two stage) dive platform, makes snorkeling and Scuba Diving easy.
The aft’ dive deck has four toilets including hot and cold water showers and wetsuit lockers. The two stage hydraulic platform allows passengers open access to the water and when down creates a dive stairwell and when up is clear of the water for high speed cruising and tender support.

Large fuel capacity matched with fuel efficient hulls give extended range capabilities for delivery voyages or in an accommodation version extended cruising time. Fuel consumption is amazing with 25knots cruising speed at 130ltrs/hr each engine @ 70% load and super economy speed of 20 knots at 85 ltrs/hr per side @ 50% load.

This design and kit combination (kit option 2) has been prepared in accordance with the NSCV (AMSA) Class 1C (96 divers plus 4 crew) criteria with Hull and Deckhouse to Lloyds Register SSC standard for offshore operations. The same design can be utilized as a ferry to carry 199 Passengers in coastal operations or over 250 passengers in partially smooth waters.
